DW3 Drill Winch from At Height Ltd is a compact and lightweight drill-powered winch for lifting and lowering people and loads. It is designed for professional use in applications such as work at height, rescue, rigging, inspection and material handling.
DW3 is classified as machinery and lifting equipment and is certified in accordance with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, Annex IV. The manufacturer describes it as a drill-powered lifting and lowering device for both people and loads.

When lifting or lowering people, a separate safety system (backup) shall be established in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Compatible personal protective equipment and suitable anchor points shall be used. The equipment shall only be used by persons with the necessary training and competence, and a risk assessment and rescue plan shall be in place before use.
Important information regarding loading
DW3 is intended for controlled, static lifting and lowering and shall not be subjected to dynamic loads or shock loading.
The manufacturer states that the equipment is not designed for shock loads, and any free-fall distance shall be limited to a maximum of 20 cm.

The manufacturer specifies 200 kg as the maximum rated load. Higher loads shall not be considered normal use. The manual refers to loads of up to 250 kg only as a specific option during rescue operations, subject to assessment by a competent person and under defined conditions.
Drill requirements
A suitable cordless drill shall be used, with a recommended minimum torque of 100 Nm and sufficient capacity for the intended operation.
Impact or hammer drills, or any impact/hammer function, shall not be used.
Inspection and maintenance
DW3 shall be inspected before each use. The rope, connection points, moving parts and the function of the winch shall be checked for wear, deformation, corrosion, cracks and other damage.
If any defect, damage or abnormal operation is identified, the equipment shall be taken out of service. During use, attention shall also be paid to any rope slippage, abnormal operation or other indications that the equipment is not functioning correctly.
In addition, a competent person shall carry out a thorough periodic inspection at least every 6 months. The manufacturer’s manual specifies this as the fixed interval for the regular periodic inspection.
For professional use in Norway, the equipment is also subject to the requirements applicable to work equipment used for lifting. Where required under current Norwegian regulations, an expert inspection shall therefore be carried out by a certified competent inspection body.
The manufacturer’s 6-month inspection by a competent person and the statutory expert inspection required under Norwegian regulations are two separate inspection requirements and shall not be confused.
